Rivers Of Steel: Carrie Furnaces 6 and 7 in Rankin, PA

Carrie Furnaces are the only remaining steel blast furnaces in Pittsburg, PA.

The furnaces were constructed back in 1881 and remained in operation until 1978. Only ruins of two furnaces:6 and 7 remain today.

The site was designated a national historic landmark in 2006.

Aura: Ruins Of the Industrial Era

This was a visit to the ruins of an abandoned clothing mill/factory in Central Pennsylvania.

The mill was constructed in 1910 as The Century Throwing Company and went bankrupt when demand for silk products went south in the United States due to the introduction of  cheaper synthetic Rayon products.

The factory was purchased by two brothers in 1930 and began making dresses for ladies and girls for the next sixty or so years. In the early 1990s, the factory was shutdown when cheaper manufacturing elsewhere drove it out of business.

Abandoned Places like this, once the centers of their communities, suffer from neglect and lack of investment nowadays.

This is an attempt at preserving the past and hoping that the future will be, somehow, more glorious…
