Archer Spade and Erik Ruin weaved sight and sound in a collective improvisation using Electric and Acoustic guitar, trombone, and tapes; providing the soundtrack for layered images of disaster – both elemental forces gone awry, and societal breakdown- that splintered and shook into abstract form and color as Ruin manipulated piles of paper cuts and painted films on the surface of the overhead projector.
Erik Ruin is a Providence-based print-maker, shadow-puppeteer, founding member of the Justseeds Artists’ Cooperative, and co-creator of the recent book Paths Toward Utopia: Graphic Explorations of Everyday Anarchism (w/ Cindy Milstein, PM Press, 2012).
Archer Spade is an experimental chamber group comprised of trombonist Dan Blacksberg and electric guitarist Nick Millevoi.
Equally capable as composers, improvisers, and interpreters, Blacksberg and Millevoi are redefining and expanding the traditional composer/performer relationship in contemporary chamber music. From their base in Philadelphia, the duo is developing a dynamic repertoire of new works commissioned from contemporary composers and pieces composed by Blacksberg and Millevoi themselves.
