Ryan McGuire is a double Bassist from Boston, the founder/bandleader of avant metal group Ehnahre, and the Bassist for the Chaparrals.
The second installment of the Spectrum Ensemble took place at the Whole Shebang in South Philadelphia.
In contrast to the Rotunda performance, smaller groups of musicians performed sets of improvised music, occasionally joining forces in bigger groups and making a bigger sound.

Featuring 24 of Philadelphia’s Outest Musicians, the brainchild of Dan Blacksberg and Nick Millevoi played a series of Sunday Matinee concerts in and around The City Of Brotherly Love.

aknkvn is a duo based in Tokyo and has been performing free improv and noise in tandem since 2009.
Akihiko Akkun Ando is an alto saxophonist born in Chiba, Japan in 1986. Since moving to Tokyo in 2001, he has been an active member of underground music scenes in both Tokyo and Kansai in western Japan, performing sax, effects and electronics.
From 2012, Akkun has been a regular collaborator with pianist Kevin McHugh who is a pianist, accordionist and improviser from Seattle, WA. After graduating from Oberlin Conservatory, McHugh won a yearlong Watson Fellowship to explore improvised music scenes in 5 megacities around the world: São Paulo, Cairo, Mumbai, Shanghai, and Tokyo. Since 2009 and after living in NYC and Oakland, Kevin has been based in Tokyo, performing and recording as an active member of Tokyo’s experimental music scene.
Jarrett Gilgore is just making his mark in the Philadelphia jazz scene. Originally from Philadelphia, Gilgore lives in Baltimore where he studied at the Peabody Conservatory. Down in Baltimore he can be seen performing with people like John Dierker, Will Redman, Anthony Pirog, and Dave Ballou.
Matt Engle has been an active member of the Philadelphia creative and improvised music scene for over 15 years. He is a member of the Dan Blacksberg Trio, Bobby Zankel small group, and Sonic Liberation Front.
Michael Szekely is a drummer currently based in Philadelphia who has recorded/performed with greats including Anthony Braxton, Dave Liebman, Bobby Zankel, and Jack Wright.
Local legend Dan Blacksberg is rapidly emerging as a new leading voice on the trombone.
With musical activity that spans avant-garde jazz, modern classical music, improvised music and klezmer, Dan brings a burly, rough-edged sound intended to push at the technical and textural extremes of his instrument.
Based in Philadelphia, Dan leads a variety of groups, such as the Dan Blacksberg Trio and Electric Simcha, and co-leads groups such as Archer Spade, the New York/Philadelphia avant-jazz quartet Bird Fly Yellow, and the terror-improv group Psychotic Quartet.
In addition, Dan has also performed with Joe Morris, Joe Maneri, Danilo Perez, Gene Coleman, and is a founding member of Anthony Braxton’s Tri-Centric Orchestra.

The result was an unbroken stream of pounding rhythms and fluid melodies.
