R5 Productions Presents Mono at Johnny Brenda’s

Mono was at Johnny Brenda’s where they performed a set of their music to an enthusiastic crowd:

Within the rage of distortion and bombardment of feedback, you are just as likely to experience sadness and beauty, light and darkness, chaos and peace, happiness and melancholy.

It is MONO’s ability to combine, intertwine and swing back and forth from two such opposite extremes to create an emotional phantasmagoria that makes this band worth experiencing.

R5 Productions Presents Holly Hunt

Drummer Beatriz Monteavaro and Guitarist Gavin Perry capture the meditative power of repetition; the ecstatic joy of tempered variation; infinitely undulating riffage; psychedelic drone paired with rock n’ roll rhythm in full splendor.

Though stripped down to the most bare essentials, Holly Hunt produces a sound and style far beyond rudimentary tags like “heavy,” “hard,” or “brutal.”

Holly Hunt opened for Mono at Johnny Brenda’s.

Split/Red

Split/Red is an art punk band from Philadelphia:

Stephen Buono(guitar),
Nebadon Adams(vocals),
Matt Engle(bass),
TC Owens(guitar),
and
Ricardo Lagomasino(drums)

Serious Heft, their latest brain child, had just been released on New Atlantis Records. The video was captured during the record release show at Johnny Brenda’s.
The five-piece ensemble combines the attitude of the Stooges with Minutemen-style hooks that get stuck in your head.
The band equally embraces heavy riffs, up-beat grooves and twin guitar skronk that goes off the rails into a shred maelstrom.
Moreover, the quintet is a collective of Philly’s experimental and rock scenes, featuring members of Many Arms, Shot x Shot, and Make A Rising.

Blowdryer and The [Very] Bad Doctors had opened the set for Split/Red:

Deveykus: Hasidic Doom Metal

Deveykus debut their album: Pillar Without Mercy at Johnny Brenda’s

Deveykus is Trombonist Dan Blacksberg’s latest brainchild, blending traditional Ashkenazic Jewish Music with Doom Metal.

The idea was conceived by Blacksberg in 2012; he decided to collaborate with musicians whose backgrounds spanned experimental rock, metal, Jazz and Jewish music to form the band.

Deveykus is:

Nick Millevoi, Guitar
Yoshie Fruchter, Guitar
Johnny DeBlase, Bass
Eli Litwin, Drums
and
Dan Blacksberg, Trumbone

In Hebrew, Deveykus means: “To Cleave to god” and refers to an ecstatic, trance-like state brought on by the singing of Nigunim.

The video was captured at Johnny Brenda’s in Philadelphia and marked the debut of Pillar Without Mercy in Philadelphia.
